As you may already be aware, November is a special month for men around the world. For the next 30 days, blokes will be united in their attempt to emulate Tom Selleck and festoon their face with hair, all in the name of charity.
That’s right; it’s Movember, a chance for all men to change their appearance and the face of men’s health, by growing a moustache to raise awareness of prostate cancer. The first annual Movember event was held in 2003 and has become a tradition in the UK, US, Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Spain, South Africa, the Netherlands and Finland.
In 2009, global participation of ‘Mo-Bros’ and ‘Mo-Sistas’ climbed to 255,755, with over one million donors raising £26 Million for Movember’s global beneficiary partners.
Wondering what ‘mo’ has to do with it? It’s slang for moustache!
FINALE!
As you may have guessed by the snow, the increased shopping and the abundance of fairy lights it’s now December, meaning the moustache-growing extravazanga that is Movember is (sadly) at an end. Our efforts have raised £1233 in support of The Prostate Cancer Charity – a huge thank you to everyone who donated, we’ll allow you the various giggles and jokes along the way!
This has contributed to the biggest Movember ever and one which I am pleased to say so far has raised £8.07m from the UK alone and a whopping £39.19m globally…and still counting!
Here are our final all important final photos along with a few words on how we found the experience…

“As a first time Movember participant and never having sported a moustache I wasn’t quite sure what to expect. Needless to say it had its challenges – namely yogurts, soup, frothy drinks and a constant itch. However after the first 2 weeks I came to quite like the camaraderie of the challenge. Despite the countless strange looks on the tube and rejection from ‘the missus’ I was thoroughly pleased with my “little bit of face fashion” and overwhelmed by the support received.
“I am pleased to hear several friends and colleagues talking about joining the Sanderson Mo-Weatherall team next year, so if my month of discomfort, embarrassment and constant nagging has somehow spurned an enthusiasm that will facilitate a greater involvement and an even bigger sum for this worthy cause next time around, then my job is done…bring on Movember 2011!”

“As a past participant of very questionable facial hair during my student years, Movember seemed a natural progression for a good cause. During the month of November, I was able to combine my long-standing will, as well as ability to grow a moustache, whilst raising money for Prostate Cancer and men’s health.
“The result was quite striking, and a little bit scary. Having said that, the look did grow on me (No pun intended). Long-live the sophisticated look of bikers, the Village People, and spitfire pilots.
“Looking forward to next year!”
